The Less-Trodden North East

BY KUMAR CHANDY

Amidst all the Goas, Rajasthans, Keralas and Lehs, I personally would recommend the North East of India.

Probably the least explored, least known and untampered of all the major tourist destinations in the country. The North East stands out as a perfect get away from the urban jungles that we live in.

The North East consists of 8 states – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. You cannot complete the North East in a single trip courtesy its ruggedness and uneven land form, which is also the reason for the scenic beauty that will accompany you on every step.

All the states have different flora and fauna. The North East is full of wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, biosphere reserves showcasing several indigenous and domestic animals and birds.

Different regions and states of the North East have different traditional cultures and dance forms. Add to it ample varieties of domestic cuisines and local delicacies.

The North East is not all just about mountains, animals and cultures, they have their own major cities in the likes of Guwahati, Gangtok, Silchar, Imphal, agartala Shillong, Dimapur, Aizwal to name a few.

Seriously, it is well worth looking up these places and arranging to travel to them now the pandemic is passing.
